Overture recently released a new line of Recycled PLA that we find very interesting. Though PLA is already an eco-friendly choice since it is based on corn and not fossil fuels, plastic waste is still a challenge. This filament takes it a step further by including 50% recycled material in addition to raw PLA.
Furthermore, its currently listed at a great price, cheaper than most standard PLAs. It’s only available in black for now, but we are hoping that they will release additional colors if demand is high enough for the product.
We picked up a roll to try out, and were happy with the quality. The material has a more matte finish and is not as uniform as other blacks, but this actually gives a really nice surface finish similar to carbon fiber PLAs. We noticed it was a bit more susceptible to warping with 60 degree bed temperatures and felt a bit soft, but we had great results with the bed at 50C. However, the filament was a consistent diameter and was rolled well, and otherwise looked just like a standard roll of PLA.
